Download our free RFP template to help your LMS selection process

Selecting the right LMS for your organization isn’t easy. Whether you’re shopping for a new LMS or are looking to replace a legacy system, the process can be long, tedious, and confusing.

An inevitable part of the LMS selection process is comparing LMS vendors. There are over 700 LMS solutions available, and shopping for one means figuring out which one is the right fit for your organization’s particular use case(s), case studies, and/or LMS requirements.

Submitting a Request for Proposal (RFP) to LMS vendors can help to efficiently evaluate and compare LMS providers, which will ultimately refine and shorten the LMS selection roadmap.

Ensuring RFP success

According to Talented Learning’s John Leh , you should think of an RFP as “an invitation to participate in the purchasing process for any type of software, goods or services. It is a document buyers send to relevant suppliers, outlining the business need, buying parameters and requirements.”

In order for the RFP process to be successful, you will have to thoroughly outline your learning, technical, security, implementation, and customization requirements for your LMS project. This step of the process is extremely important, but it can also become very tedious.

For an easier process and greater accessibility , we’ve developed a free LMS RFP template to help streamline the RFP creation, submission, response, and procurement process.

Using the LMS RFP template

The learning management system RFP template provided includes two parts:

Part A is to be completed by the client, then submitted to the vendor along with Part B. The goal of this PDF document is for clients to provide contextual information about their business and their LMS use case(s). The more information you provide, the more valuable the vendor’s RFP response will be (which will allow you to better inform your LMS purchase decision).

Part B is an excel spreadsheet for the vendor’s RFP response . This is your list of learning, technical/architecture, security, functionality , and implementation requirements. Be sure to go through each list of requirements and add or modify questions according to your end-users ‘ unique e-learning needs. Submit this list to the vendor, along with Part A.

Together, these two documents will significantly streamline the  LMS selection process and help ensure you choose the LMS that’s right for your organization.
